However, no matter how eco-friendly it is or how much money you’re gonna save, a large number of people are sceptical about trusting a foldable electric bicycle.

Why?

Because of the prevailing delusions and misconceptions surrounding them. Hence, in this blog,I will debunk the most popular myths concerning foldable electric bicycles and take you to the land of truth!

So, fasten your seatbelts and join me on the ride!

Common Misconception About Folding Electric Bicycles

  1. These bicycles can easily break/ They are not durable

Nothing lasts forever and we all know that but that doesn’t mean a foldable e-bicycle should break into pieces so easily! Usually, most people believe that foldable electric cycles are not so durable. Probably, it is because of that part of the bicycle that can fold. This type of cycle has several joints and hinges that make it delicate. But sadly, you’ve been believing a myth!

Read the truth: Any kind of machine, device or gadget that has hinges and joints become the weak points. And every foldable e-bicycle manufacturer is aware of this fact, if truth be told, they know this better than you. They realize this as well as we do, and they’ve taken steps to strengthen the weak spots.

As a result, any potential issues are avoided and your foldable e-cycle has a more classic, robust feel about it. In addition, the load on the hinges and joints have been reduced to improve durability. Thus, e-bicycles that fold are capable of surviving longer than other types of bikes.

2. Are Folding Electric Bicycles illegal on roads in India?

Every country follows a different set of rules when it comes to legalizing a type of vehicle. Since I am residing in India, all electric vehicles here must be approved by the ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India). Vehicles with less than 250W and a top speed of less than 25 km/h do not require certification, thus they do not have to go through the complete testing process. Instead, they must obtain an exemption report from ARAI. Besides, if you’re 18 years of age, you wear a helmet and have a license because your foldable electric bicycle is over 250W and goes over 25km/h, who’s stopping you from hitting the main roads on your super cool e-bicycle?

3. Is Folding e-bicycles Expensive?

One of the most common reasons I’ve ever heard is why people freak out on thinking of buying a foldable electric cycle. “It’s not worth buying a foldable electric cycle because it’s sooo expensive!”

Believe me, foldable electric cycles have already invited a revolution in the transportation industry. In the US, the sale of electric bicycles already started increasing steadily even before the pandemic and a report by NPD shows that the rate of electric bicycle sales has shot up by 240% in 1 year up to July 2021.

However, as the pandemic progressed, additional pricing constraints like shipping container shortages, spiking sea freight charges, rising raw material costs, and a weakening US/RMB exchange rate forced many merchants to gradually raise their prices. Revenues from global e-bike sales are predicted to increase from $15.7 billion to $24.4 billion by 2025.

As I have always said, folding electric bikes are an investment you’ll never regret. With sustainable transportation becoming the future, a foldable electric bicycle can be a little expensive compared to the general bicycles but with all the features, like easy to carry, store or saving on fuel, purchasing a foldable electric bicycle is certainly worth your money.

4. Foldable e-bicycles don’t have enough speed

This is again another popular misunderstanding regarding folding electric bicycles that I’ve heard at least I’ve heard from seven people within my own friend’s circle. Many people believe they are slow. It is assumed that the gear system will not provide enough power when pedalling to aid climb steep regions because of their compact size and foldability.

However, most new foldable bicycles are designed with large gear inches, which means there are more revolutions every pedal revolution. When it comes to uphill portions, it helps to deliver both speed and power.

Many people are perplexed by the fact that folding electric bicycles have smaller wheels, which they mistakenly believe means they cover less ground per spin. These cycles compensate for the smaller wheels by using gear sizes that are different from those found on a “regular” one.

5. Electric motors in foldable e-cycles are hazardous and should not be exposed to rain or snow!

It is common sense that the manufacturers of these bicycles aren’t fools. They have a good understanding of what they’re doing. The case protects the battery pack from water. This creates a safe riding experience whether you are using your folding e-bike in the rain, snow, or sleet. The majority of e-bikes are water-resistant. The battery will work great as long as you don’t submerge the entire bike in water.

So, if your question is whether electric foldable cycle motors are weather-resistant, the answer is yes. Most electric bikes are waterproof. If your eBike is splashed with a little water or if you ride it while it’s raining, it won’t break down. However, the amount of water that electric bikes can tolerate varies by model.

Final Thoughts: There you go! If you’ve been pondering for a long time, ‘whether I should get an electric foldable bicycle’, you don’t need to ponder anymore because you should go out and acquire one right now. Folding e-bicycles have numerous benefits that will surely enhance your riding experience. Moreover, for the correct reasons, folding electric cycles are becoming more common on trains, buses, office buildings, municipal streets, and apartment halls. The simplicity of owning an electric cycle that fits nicely within your suitcase is hard to top!

Folding e-bicycles also contribute to a reduction in vehicle-related greenhouse gas emissions, lowering our planet’s carbon footprint. They’re also good for your overall health and fitness.
